Description

Carpet tiles are a modern modular floor covering consisting of separate square elements. The tiles are easily installed thanks to their own weight or fixed with adhesive. Due to the high density of the pile, the material is highly wear-resistant, moisture-resistant, and able to withstand significant mechanical loads. This makes carpet tiles suitable for both small rooms and large areas with heavy foot traffic: offices, corridors, halls, retail spaces, and residential interiors. Size: 500x500 mm. Thickness: 3 mm. Area: 0.25 sq. m. Weight: 500 grams. Structure and Material Properties 1. Polypropylene pile The top layer defines the appearance of the flooring and the feel underfoot. Polypropylene (PP) fibers retain their shape, do not absorb moisture, resist abrasion and static, and are easy to clean. The density and height of the pile directly influence the durability of the carpet, as this layer takes on the main load during use. 2. Polypropylene woven backing Below the pile is a dense woven backing — the primary supporting layer, similar to a strong synthetic fabric. Its purpose is to securely anchor the pile fibers, distribute the load evenly, and prevent fibers from pulling out or deforming. Thanks to its dimensional stability, this layer does not stretch or shrink during use. 3. Rigid base layer The key structural component of carpet tiles is a dense composite board made of polymers and mineral fillers. Once cured, it provides the necessary rigidity and shape stability, preventing tiles from deforming during installation or use. This material should not be bent — excessive bending can lead to cracking along the fold line. 4. Spunbond An additional stabilizing layer — a thin nonwoven polypropylene fabric. Molten polymer fibers form a strong web fused together by heat. Spunbond does not stretch, has high tear and abrasion resistance, does not absorb moisture, and is non-flammable. This layer ensures the dimensional stability of the tile and increases its lifespan. Subfloor Preparation Carpet tiles can be installed on most types of existing flooring: linoleum, ceramic tiles, parquet, laminate, and more. To ensure a durable and high-quality installation, it is important to prepare the surface properly: - Cleaning: remove dust, dirt, grease, and any contaminants that may reduce adhesive bonding. - Flatness: the surface must be free of significant unevenness, cracks, or holes. Use filler or leveling compounds if needed. - Dryness: a moist surface reduces adhesion — make sure the floor is completely dry after cleaning or priming. - No mold: if mold is present, treat the subfloor with appropriate antimicrobial products. Installing Carpet Tiles Before starting, ensure that the subfloor meets all preparation requirements and that there are no drafts in the room. Adhesive application To fix the tiles, use: - Acrylic adhesive: applied in a thin strip along the perimeter of the tile, approximately 2 cm from the edge. - Acrylic dispersion (water-based) adhesive: applied as a continuous layer across the entire backside of the tile. Installation process 1. Starting point. Begin in one corner of the room or from the center (depending on the installation pattern). Proper alignment of the first tile determines the accuracy of the entire layout. 2. Firm adhesion. After positioning the tile, press it evenly across the entire surface to avoid bubbles and wrinkles. 3. Placing subsequent tiles. Install each tile flush against the previous one, ensuring tight and even joints. 4. Cutting. Use a sharp utility knife or scissors to trim tiles for perimeter areas or around obstacles. 5. Final fixation. Allow the adhesive to dry completely — typically 24 hours — before subjecting the floor to foot traffic.
